Figure Study Session — 2 Models

A focused figure study event for experienced and developing artists. Two live models will pose in succession. Sessions emphasize gesture, proportion, anatomy, light and shadow.

Who should attend

  • Intermediate to advanced artists working in drawing, painting, charcoal, ink, pastel, or mixed media

  • Art students seeking extended life-drawing practice

  • Illustrators and character artists refining anatomy and interaction

Models and Poses

  • Two models with experience in extended and dynamic poses

  • Combination of short gesture poses (1–5 minutes), medium studies (10–15 minutes), and long poses (30 minutes)

Format

  • 3-hour session divided roughly as:

    • Warm-up gestures: 6–8 poses (1–5 minutes each)

    • Medium studies: 2–4 poses (10–15 minutes)

    • Long pose: 1–2 poses (30 minutes)

  • Quiet, focused environment; friendly but professional atmosphere

  • Basic easels provided; bring your own drawing boards, preferred materials, and stool or chair (optional)

Materials to bring

  • Preferred drawing/painting materials (charcoal, vine charcoal, graphite, conte, ink, pastels, oils, acrylics)

  • Drawing paper or canvas (paper size suggestions: 9x12, 11x14, 18x24; bring larger for long poses)

  • Masking tape or clips, erasers, fixative (if using charcoal/pastel)

  • Portable easel or drawing board and a stool

  • Apron or smock, water container (for paints), rags or paper towels

  • Cell phones on silent; minimal conversation during poses

  • Food and beverages allowed in designated areas only; studio will provide bottled water

Safety and Accessibility

  • The studio is wheelchair accessible; please indicate accessibility needs at registration

  • Models are trained in safe posing and will communicate any discomfort

  • If you have health concerns or special requirements, notify organizers before the session
